Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve 's Patriot Award Presented at East Valley
HealthSouth East Valley Rehabilitation Hospital Director of Marketing Diana Fischer was presented with the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve’s (ESGR) Patriot Award on Monday, Jan. 9 at the hospital. The Patriot Award is awarded to individual supervisors and bosses for support provided directly to the nominating Service member and his or her family. The award reflects the efforts made to support citizen warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families, and granting leaves of absence if needed.
Fischer’s nominator, Mia Quintanilla, RN, has been a rehabilitation liaison for HealthSouth East Valley for more than 3 years. In addition to her duties at HealthSouth East Valley, Quintanilla is a military veteran and serves in the National Guard and Reserve Force in Arizona.
In October of 2015, Quintanilla, with only 2 days notice, was notified that she was being deployed to an unknown location and that her deployment would last until mid-March of 2016. The marketing team at HealthSouth East Valley, overseen by Fischer, pitched in to cover her job responsibilities so that she could prepare for her leave and spend time with her three school aged-children. Quintanilla returned to HealthSouth East Valley after her deployment and continues to participate in monthly Guard Drill and pursue additional positions within the military.
“Being able to help Mia in time of need, our team showed a great sense of pride and patriotism by supporting her while she makes such a great sacrifice to keep our country safe,” said Fischer. “This award reflects the work of my dedicated and selfless team who made sure that Mia’s departure and return were seamless.”
